Fishing Scotland Guiding & Fly Fishing School

A Fishing Scotland guide is just what you need to quick fix that “which loch, which river, when is the best time” “There’s hundreds of lochs and streams! I only have
five days to fish”! What a way to get stressed out on vacation. Forget all that stuff! Gofishing with Fishing Scotland. Be guided to Fish every minute of your fishing
day with a local knowledge expert who just happens to be a crackin’
guide/coach of fly fishing in Scotland.

It might be you have never fly fished before. The often quoted “I’v always wanted to be able to fly fish” need not pass into thin air - do it now. Where better to learn to cast a fly to catch a wild brown trout or a wild Atlantic Salmon than in the Highlands of Scotland. Streams and rivers rush from mountain and gorge to spill at lower level into secluded lochs in remote yet accessible glens or forested straths the habitat of red deer, otter and pine marten, while above an osprey wheels in search of pray with golden eagle higher still commands, as king of birds should.

Private “Learn to Fly Fish” excursions are of six hours duration with every item included in the price quoted. Just arrive dressed for the weather of the day as if going walking. Fishing Scotland provide everything, including Wellie Boots. The initial lesson covers introduction to fly fishing equipment through practise and coaching to overhead and roll casting. Ideally, as with learning any skill, at least two excursions are required to provide a firm foundation of skill and control. Three excursions with a break day away seeking out castles and exploring shady glens in between each excursion is the way to provide high learning ability and will certainly ensure you are hooked for life not just on fly fishing, but Fly fishing in the Highlands of Scotland

Fishing Scotland private guided excursions for experienced anglers are scheduled as six hour sessions and would normally start at 09:00 or 13:00, or other times by arrangement prior to the day of excursion. Additional time can be added to this. However, it is recommended that this arrangement is made prior to the day of your scheduled excursion.

Input from experienced guests as to their preferences is always helpful in ensuring our guide provides as best possible just what you prefer. Most of our trout fishing is in lochs and Atlantic Salmon fishing in rivers. While there is some excellent trout river fishing a great many of our west coast streams and rivers are spate waters where current rainfall dictates the water level or lack of it! Such rivers generally do not hold other than small wee trout of 12 to 15 centimetres.

As in most things, Scots are practical fishers and few are purist to the degree that they fish only dry fly in all conditions. The majority may well prefer fishing dry fly but if wet fly is the “Right Stuff” then wet it is. Nymphing, buzzers and some ridiculously small attractors can work wonders at the right time and place, in fact over the last few years there is little doubt in the writers mind that the heaviest and greatest number of takes recorded have been with tiny nymphs or similar from 16 to 20 in every thing from coldest to mid summer luke warm water.

Multi location extended fishing excursions can be arranged with two day stops in two or more areas of the Highlands. Two days fishing trout or salmon in Glen Spean and Great Glen with an evening drive north east to Elgin in Moray. Two days fishing in the Spey Valley followed with a tourist day to drive west to Inchnadamph or Lochinver with two further days fishing the famous Sutherland trout lochs. Then it’s off home for another year or! Just stay another week.

If you have a mind or a dream to come home (everybody has a wee bit of Scotland in there veins) to Scotland to fish or learn to fish, and maybe a little uncertain were to start – Just call James at 0 700 GOFISHING and lets talk fishin’ stuff.
