Another Atlantic Salmon returns to the wild...

Learn to fish for Wild Atlantic Salmon

Rightly the King of game fish, the Atlantic Salmon, particularly in the spring is in peak condition. Having only just arrived in the river from the ocean. Springer's in Scotland are generally much larger fish than those of the summer runs. Twenty pounder's plus are commonplace to the extent that one experienced spring fisher has in thirty years caught only one salmon under ten pounds and averaged eighteen and a half pounds from the same spring river.

Wild Atlantic Salmon fishing with Fishing Scotland

FISHING SCOTLAND as with all their "learn to excursions" provide all instruction and coaching, the best of tackle and even wellie boots if required. Positively no fishing experience of any kind is required. Our salmon fishing excursions are short or weekend breaks of two or three days or week long vacations, Monday through Saturday. Salmon fishing is not permitted in Scotland on Sundays.

Wild Atlantic Salmon fishing in Scotland is good as it is due to sensible and considerate rules and regulations all of which quite rightly hold the priority of the well being of the salmon as paramount. The number of rods permitted to fish any one stretch (beat) of a private river is regulated. In most instances a private beat would be for three or four rods and reserved Monday to Saturday. Single or two rod fishing can be difficult to place at times, but with considerate early enquiry not impossible.

Our Highland spring salmon fishing starts 15 January through the beginning of June with smaller fish (grilse) arriving in June through July. From then on there are fish entering the river on their way to spawn so the further through the season the more fish are in the river. However, bright dry summer days heat and reduce the water volume making it difficult to get the fish to move. By early September the temperature generally begins to fall and active through to the end of the season.
